✨ Construction Update — June 4, 2025 ✨

Framing:
Sheetrock installation starts today (6/4). Floating, taping, and sanding will kick off by the end of the week and continue through the weekend!

Drop Ceiling:
The grid installation for the drop ceiling is scheduled for tomorrow (6/5)!

HVAC:
Some final metal ductwork is being installed above the drop ceiling. The first (longer) run will be completed this afternoon/evening so that grid installation can begin on that side. The second run will be installed on the opposite end tomorrow, allowing crews to work simultaneously.

Flooring:
The flooring we originally selected was on backorder, but Prosource worked quickly with GLC to find a very similar alternative - golden wood coming in HOT! GLC approved it yesterday to ensure we get the floor delivered as quickly as possible (including expedited shipping!). We’re also bringing in an additional flooring crew to install floors while painting happens on the other side of the building - everyone working together?

Electrical:
Electrical installation will resume next week once the drop ceiling grid is in place, allowing the crew to complete everything in one final push.

Cabinetry:
We’re repurposing the long checkout counter from our old shop—splitting it in two for this location. The section with the glass case attached will serve as our sales counter, while the other section will become the bookstore bar counter.Ā

We’re working diligently to wrap this project up so that Bonne Vie Macarons can open its doors on June 17th!Ā

✨ Construction Update — May 27, 2025 ✨

We’re getting so close, y’all.Ā Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes at 105 St. Landry St:

šŸ› ļø Plumbing:
The open wall inspection wrapped up today! Next up: breaking concrete and running sewer lines to the road—this will be done at the same time as taping and floating the interior walls to keep the parking lot clear.

🧱 Framing + Sheetrock:
The HVAC needs on the bakery side required a small wall shift, which will happen tomorrow (5/28). Once inspections are done, sheetrock work begins—fingers crossed for Thursday or Friday!

ā„ļø HVAC:
The right-side unit and condensers will be set in place tomorrow, and ductwork starts right after. Things are moving fast!

⚔ Electrical:
Electricians are finishing wall wiring and prepping for final inspections. Updates include:

  • New drop-in LED panel lights for the Book Club & Co. side

  • Four chandeliers on the Bonne Vie Macarons side

  • A dimmable light behind the bar (perfect for events!)

  • Outlets galore—including spots for phone charging, our alarm keypad, and a light switch by the front door for easy open/close access.

ā¬‡ļø Drop Ceiling:
Grid install is scheduled for Monday once walls are floated—this will also help with final AV needs.

šŸŽÆ Move-In Goal:
If all continues as planned, we’ll start moving in Friday, June 13. You’ll see macarons and romance books in their new forever home very soon.

šŸ›  May 13, 2025 – Construction Update

🪵 Framing is officially finished!
The walls are up, the layout is mapped, and it finally feels like a real space instead of just a Pinterest board and a dream. We’re one big step closer to opening day!

šŸ’” Lighting tweaks + little upgrades
We’re finalizing some last-minute details with our electrician, like adding a light switch by the front door (no fumbling in the dark, thank you very much) and an outlet for the alarm system. Still making sure every cozy corner in the bookstore has a plug nearby — your Kindles and laptops will be very happy here.

šŸ“† Timeline check-in
We’re still planning to host our very first book club night in the space on May 28 (it might be a little dusty, but we’re rolling with it). Full opening is still looking good for early June, and we’re counting down the days.

šŸ›  May 6, 2025: Construction Update

🚿 Concrete’s in!
The plumbing trenches passed inspection, and as of today, the interior concrete is being poured back in. Floors = officially whole again.

🪵 Framing starts now:
The framing materials got dropped off this morning, and framing starts tomorrow!Ā

šŸ’” Lighting + outlets coming together:
Electrical work is scheduled to begin next week. We’ll have beam lights in the bakery (just like that fabulous Gleason Group Broussard project!) and four chandeliers over in the bookstore. There’ll be a dedicated switch for behind-the-bar lighting too—because vibes matter.

We’re also working with the electricians to add extra outlets on the Rusted Rooster side, especially near the seating areas. Gotta keep your Kindles, phones, and laptops happy!

šŸ“† Mark your calendars:
We’re still on track for our first official Book Club night in the space on May 28, even if not COMPLETELY ready - never a better time to be signed up for a book club!

šŸ›  May 2, 2025 – Construction Update

🚪 Permit secured: Our building permit is officially approved and posted on the front doors—always a good sign when paperwork starts moving to walls.

🚿 Plumbing progress: Jamie May Plumbing wrapped up their inspection this morning and is already backfilling the trench inside. Things are literally getting covered up so we can start building on top!

🧱 Concrete prep: The inspector also gave us the green light to repour the interior concrete. It's go time.

šŸ”Œ Next up—framing + electrical: We’ve got a site meeting first thing Monday morning with the electrician to start mapping out framing and electrical placement (aka your future phone-charging zones).

šŸ›  April 22, 2025 – Construction Update

We’re getting so close, y’all. The space is buzzing with activity, and this week’s update is full of behind-the-scenes magic:

  • Cute concrete? Jamie May Plumbing has been hard at work saw-cutting and busting up the floors to reroute all of our plumbing (bless him). The new riser diagrams are with the city now, and if all goes well, we’ll pour the concrete back next week and move right into inspection mode.

  • Framing fun: The back wall framing is almost wrapped, and if everything stays on track, we’ll start framing the rest of the space next week—at least the spots that aren’t waiting on plumbing work!

  • No drop ceilings, no problem: With our open ceiling plan, the audio + video gear will be mounted to the roof bolts (fancy!), and all the electrical conduit will be neatly tucked into spray foam insulation that’s getting a fresh coat of paint soon - surround sound jazz steadily approaching!

  • Outlets galore: We’re mapping out outlet locations with the electrician next week, especially on the Rusted Rooster side, so you’ll always have a cozy corner with a charger nearby for your phone, Kindle, or laptop!

  • Oven countdown: Early/Mid-May is the goal for getting our ovens in the building. This keeps us on track for fire marshal inspection (and bonus: no suppression system needed thanks to our all-electric setup). We’re also checking into any fees for moving equipment more than once—our restaurant guys are the best (and most patient)

  • Bookshelves + counters: Nolan officially has the plans! Once walls are up, he’ll come out to take final measurements so he can get started on our custom counters and dreamy bookstore shelving - plus that dessert case we've all come to know and love.

We're still aiming for a late spring/early summer opening, and it’s all starting to come together. Soon we’ll be stocking shelves, baking macarons, and setting up cozy reading corners. Deep breaths, happy dances—it’s happening...

✨ April Construction Update ✨
(aka yes, we’re still opening—and we’re getting so close!)

Our last update was in March, and since then, here’s the scoop on the transformation happening behind the scenes:

šŸ”§ Plumbing Work Is Well Underway
The slab's been cut, plumbing lines inspected, and we’ve made a few smart layout tweaks (like moving a toilet to avoid breaking a building footing—construction magic!).

šŸ—ļø Walls, Roof, & Real Progress
This week: the back wall comes down (and goes right back up!) and we’re getting a shiny new roof. Framing for interior walls starts soon—cue the happy dance!

šŸ’” Let There Be Outlets!
Our new space will have plenty of cozy corners for phone charging, reading, and hanging out with your macs and books—thanks to a dreamy new electrical plan.

šŸ“… What’s Next?
Framing finishes next week, then it’s on to electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. We’re hoping to move in ovens mid-May to get ready for inspections, and custom bookshelves + counters are officially in the works.
